Saturday 17th May 2025 – Men’s Competition

Sunday 18th May 2025 – Women’s Competition

Venue: The Ashcombe Volleyball Centre, Dorking RH4 1LY

Women’s Competition

Farnborough had a good day, not dropping a set in the pool and semi-final stages. Dolphins pushed them hard in the finals taking it to a third deciding set.

  • 1st Farnborough Phoenix
  • 2nd Sussex Dolphins
  • Winchester & Jersey were the losing semi-finalists

Men’s Competition

Saturday was a good day for Hampshire, with Guernsey and Portsmouth meeting in the men’s final. It was an excellent match which Portsmouth took 15-13 in the deciding set. It really could have gone either way but Portsmouth got their heads down and prevailed.

  • 1st Portsmouth
  • 2nd Guernsey
  • Worthing Vipers and Brighton Jaguars were the losing semi-finalists

Pre-Tournament Information

  1. Teams to register at 8:30. We need to know we have a full set of teams in case (for whatever reason) there is a need to juggle the schedule.  Ian / Pat will be in the corridor outside the main hall to record teams as they arrive.
  1. Pat & Ian will hold a very short briefing / Q&A at 9am – also in the corridor outside the sports hall.  Just one person from each team needed, please, or it will get a tad crowded.
  1. Freda has already advised the tasks allocated to each County, but I have set them out below as a reminder:
  • Surrey – Opening and locking and setting up the courts
  • Sussex – Check toilets and changing rooms regularly. Clear away all rubbish.
  • Hants – Making sure the rubbish bins are emptied throughout the day and all the rubbish is cleared away at the end of the competition.
  • Kent – Enter the match results into the tournament spreadsheet / workbook (on a laptop or tablet – probably a little tricky on a mobile phone!)
  • Berks – Help setting up and selling refreshments. There is a card machine and a cash box.
  1. Teams are required to provide referees, scorers and line judges for a couple of matches during the pool phase (and possibly semi-finals / finals).  Ludo Kowalewski is holding an observation / upgrading workshop for referees over the weekend and expects that those attending will cover all of the 1st referee positions and some of the 2nd ref positions, too.  But please be ready to provide a full complement of match officials for the games allocated to your team – whatever help Ludo & Co can provide means less for you to do.  Dee Wauchope and Richard Burbedge will be attending on Saturday and Ludo will attend on Sunday.
  1. It is recommended that attendees should check the Highways England website https://m.highwaysengland.co.uk/#searchresults for updates on M25 roadworks (junctions 8-10) which might have an impact on journeys.  Please also allow a bit more travel time than you might otherwise do, if there are potential delays on 17th and 18th.
